As much as I enjoy my blog, there are times when I just want to take a vacation from it. Before I had the obligation of an audience, I could ignore the internet for a while when I wanted to. As long as my best friend knew I was okay, I didn't HAVE to be online.
I do make a point of not being online at all on Sundays, but there are times when I just want to not show up on Monday.
This was soothing to read. Excellent writing as always. Made me think of the accountability of an author whether you have one reader or a million. We don’t own an explanation but perhaps it’s nice to give one… or not… without the pressure or implied obligation to do so.
I also believe scarcity is at play here. When your favourite authors don’t write something every few days, you look forward to that article that comes out after a few weeks. You check their profile to see if anything new is there. Once something is published, you eagerly read.
Hi Kate, do hope you and the family are all keeping well and safe and enjoying life in Mexico. No explanation required but enjoyed it anyway. Don't worry about us or what we may think you're up to, we'll still be hear when you've got some more excellent content, mind how you go luv.
Love your blog Kate, you hit it on the head. Now that I too have figured out, mostly, the totalitarian crap that's going on, the more I expect it and the less upset I am to fight it. Still addicted as if a ticking time bomb will go off but thats because I'm in Canada and my biggest desire would be like you, to escape. And that's where all my energy is focused.
Of course you're talking to me! Perfectly timed, perfectly pitched post. No one has to be anything for anyone, especially strangers.

Great piece. You hit on something so many of us struggle with.

It's healthy... up to a certain point.
Shhh! Don't tell my neglected readers that I've been lurking on Substack the WHOLE TIME.
